Our Instruments in Detail

Harnessing over 20 years of microarray innovation from our expert team of scientists and engineers, Mercury systems boast unrivalled speed, precision, reproducibility, and quality assurance in real-time.

Explore Features...

Robust inkjet printing

Mercury instruments are equipped with a piezoelectric inkjet printhead for rapid, precise, high-density printing. A 384-well plate can be printed in triplicate onto 100 microarray slides in 40 minutes, including cleaning steps.

Advanced sample loading

Sample is loaded into the base of the printhead using a JetSpyder™ our patented aspiration device, which detaches from the printhead before printing. The JetSpyder™ is designed to reach the bottom of sample wells and minimise waste, whilst eliminating cross contamination.

Sample plate and substrate handling

Our systems accommodate 96 and 384-well source plates, and print onto microscope slides, microplates, and custom substrates. In high-capacity models, stacking systems manage sample plates and substrates. The modular design means Mercury instruments are upgradeable to scale with your needs – up to the largest batch sizes on the market.

Iris™ optical quality control

With our patented Iris™ technology, dual cameras attached to the printhead take images of every spot within 300 ms of deposition. Mercury Command Pro™ software analyses the images in real-time and will automatically reprint if necessary, so you never miss a spot

Environmental Control

Sample handling and printing takes place in one contained, HEPA-filtered environment. Our powerful JetMosphere™ system gives tight, traceable control of humidity and temperature – to keep your arrays reproducible and your samples safe. An optional JetMosphere™ Max unit can chill the whole instrument for printing down to 4 ºC.

Mercury Command™ Software

Mercury Command™ software allows you to manage print layouts, track samples, manage data, and view operational records. The Mercury Command™ Pro upgrade includes advanced features for sample tracking and substrate quality control, as well as automatic spot reprint, remote notifications, and cloud data services.

Reliable Data Acquisition

Pick-up an auto-loading, dual-channel fluorescent scanner for fast, easy data acquisition that is tried-and-tested with Arrayjet instruments. Imaging is high-speed and adjustable, with real-time autofocus and a built-in barcode reader.

All instruments are manufactured at our ISO 13485:2016 controlled manufacturing facility in Scotland, UK.

“We’ve been able to print extra slides for other researchers working on SARS-CoV-2 projects. The sheer speed of Arrayjet’s “on-the-fly” printers makes this possible. The intuitive software is continually updated, and the technology itself is very modern so I trust it in terms of reliable performance and quality printing. The spot morphology is also very good; the microarrayer from Arrayjet is one of the best that I’ve ever seen.”

Sheng-ce Tao, Professor of Systems Biology – Shanghai Jiao Tong University

“Our Arrayjet has been instrumental in achieving the throughput and reliability that have been needed for the production of antigen arrays for validation of 47,000 antibodies within the Human Protein Atlas. It has also shown to be highly suitable for the production of our large scale arrays that comprise over 20,000 features per array in both antigen and reverse phase serum arrays. We have arrayed more than 12,000 slides with the Arrayjet Marathon over the last five years and it has become a very important part of our research group and the SciLifeLab National Affinity Proteomics protein array facility.”

Peter Nilsson, SciLifeLab and KTH – Royal Institute of Technology

“I’m one of the six co-founders of CDI Laboratories and act as a consultant on the scientific advisory board. Over the past few years, we had been using contact printing technology, which was causing several quality issues and we needed to seek an alternative, improved solution to our fast-growing and developing business model. After extensive research, testing and development of our ‘HuProt’ Human Proteome Array onto Arrayjet’s printing platform by accessing their in-house printing service (Arrayjet Advance), the board of CDI decided to technology transfer by purchasing an Arrayjet 1000 slide printer for development & manufacturing.

Arrayjet Advance allowed us to determine the number of protein samples (circa 20,000 printed in duplicate) to be delivered to the slides that were highly consistent with piezo actuation, non-contact inkjet printing. Arrayjet’s JetSpyder sample aspiration device effectively eliminates any cross-contamination between protein samples, so the quality of our slides is significantly improved. Previously we could produce just over 150 slides of acceptable quality in a print run, too slow a pace for the scale and growth of current and future demands; being able to print up to 1000 slides quickly, in a highly efficient manner was incredibly appealing to us. Arrayjet, led by their CEO Iain McWilliam, has proven to be knowledgeable and a pleasure to work with and I look forward to collaborating with their team in future developments.”
